Deep Dive 11/6

Genesis 10, 11, 13, 14, 18

Tower of Babel (Chiasmus)

Scripture repeats itself, if you can't

understand the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th time.

You can even take individual

people and take their story.

Chiasmus (Chiasm)

Climax of story.

Verses are structured in parallels,

and other.

Fig tree represents Israel (Jesus story

in temple).

Tree that was blessed one day

was withered (cursed) the next day.

When Peter points this out to

Jesus, Jesus gave told Peter, have

faith in God Center, Climax of story.

Chiasmus kinda is like a story

built weird. Not A C.  B, C, A, etc.

"But God remembered Noah"

Genesis 18–19 parallels: 2 angels, in both

city, night / days.

God separates light from dark.

He is the source, sun came later.

Story is about good and

bad, light / dark.

Uses water for cleanse, return,

renewed. Baptism, God uses water.

Even earth has been thru a

baptism, cleanse, flood.

Genesis 11:24, 25

Fathered other sons and

daughters. Family tree referenced,

linked to Noah.

Hebrews, later Israelites.

Rhythms in Hebrew (language).

Some were in poems.

Written on animal skin, slabs.

Written from same kind of

people, but in different time

periods. 1400 period of years.

40 authors.

John 5:39, 40

Jesus says the scripture

is Him, but people go to

it, but not Him.

The scripture has Jesus

in them, not telling me what

to do.

Jesus "I Am Life"

(Also said it's a mirror, but

I don't think that's the message.)

Scripture is about finding

Jesus within them.

All Scripture is

2 Peter 1:20–21

Holy Spirit worked thru the

writers and essentially wrote it.

We all think wrong

because we don't think

like Glenn.

Light and dark runs thru

the entire Bible.

So, continue to search for

Him, forever.

It's easy to make the

Bible about ME. It's not, tho.

Genesis 11:24–

Lot?

"Ur" debated where this

is.

Age of Conscience: before the

Law, which was before Grace.

No legs???  Half-sisters. Oh.

Ur Canaan. Haran.

Abram Abraham (renamed)

Instructed to leave family from

God. Haran is a city and

a name. Some people

named cities after themselves.

So, different name, different

dude basically.

Lot's dad is Haran,
maybe they stopped bcs of that?

No, in OG scripture the names
are slightly different.

Genesis 13

(Abram) They got rich after

they left.

Too much money,

increased problems.

They chose to separate.

They were worshiping their stuff,

not God. They separated when they shouldn't

have.

Hospitality is giving something up to

help others.

Greed.

Lot was offered and

he chose more than what

he could even see.

Journey east. (Akin to garden

story.) God made them leave.

Tree was there for protection.

Tree of knowledge, when eaten,

you can now die and go

back to dust. A new perspective

on that story for me. Planned,

basically. The snake was a

part of the plan after all.

When Lot started making

his own choices, everything

started going wrong.

"We have a choice"

Story is a warning.

Story is like story of

Jesus and people not listening to

His way.

Story of Lot starts here,

where he starts to see.

God sends angels to

save Lot from a city.

Abraham prayed for him,

that's why. God's righteousness, not

Abraham's.

God told us to spread

out and cover a the earth,

but we only made cities and

stayed. Makes me think

of how prophets and other

important people in history

have covered distance and

their message got heard, and

we know them even today.

What important Bible characters

have stayed in a city, or

stayed still???

"Life will come through

Death," very common message

in the Bible.

Abram got everything because he

gave up everything. Not Lot.

Then Abram still worshiped

the Lord in the mountains

and built an altar for

Him. He was given everything.

But, still, chose God.

Romans 12:10

Galatians 5:13

"Abram took up his cross"

Matthew 16:24

John 5:30

2 Corinthians 8:9

John 17:5

It's not what you do

or what you did, but

how you treat others.

What it means to

follow Christ.

Easy to see others go

through something. But very hard

to go through it yourself.

Genesis 14

"Give me the people," keep the goods.

Abram turned down the rewards

for himself.

Abram is a symbol to

see what Jesus is going

to do.

Gen 18:1–12

Abraham Jesus

Father of the Jews

Isaac means laughter.

Abraham was given a gift

of a child and laughs,

and so does Sarah.

Laughing could be a sign

of disbelief (or nervousness?)

Maybe it's happiness.

Why did Sarah deny laughing?

Genesis 18:15

Bcs maybe she did actually believe

and IDK. I feel like her

denying laughing is a sign that

she DOES believe!

She laughed to herself.

Her heart wasn't right.

Kinda like a knee-jerk reaction.

Continue to see things through

their own eyes.

Depression

Old Testament shows

flesh.

God makes a way

constantly to reveal Himself to

us.

Continue Lot's story

– Routine prayer life.

– Reading to hear.

– It doesn't happen right away. It

takes time to build a relationship.

– Desires heart, and to know Him and Him

know me.

– If I continue, it will strengthen,

very obviously.

Next Friday

When Glenn prays you can hear

the relationship he actually has with

Him. It was very personal and

you can feel the history.

if you want to keep going…

  • Genesis 19 Lot's story continues: the angels, the escape, Lot's wife. You flagged this one yourself.
  • Genesis 12 The call of Abram. It fills the gap between Genesis 11 and 13 in these notes.
  • Genesis 3 The garden, read slowly, with the two trees in mind, for your "part of the plan" question.
  • Mark 9:14-29 "I believe; help my unbelief." It goes right at your faith vs. belief question about Sarah.
  • Hebrews 11:8-19 The New Testament's take on Abraham and Sarah's faith.
  • Acts 8:1-8 The church gets scattered and the message spreads. Your "spreading out" idea in action.
